At Sunset Pier in Key West, rows of lime-green umbrellas rise above wooden tables and stools painted turquoise, magenta, coral, and yellow. The panoramic composition sets their repeating shapes against open water and a low island horizon, turning an empty waterfront terrace into a vivid study of summer color.
The story
I framed the pier around its empty stools, letting their bright colors lead my eye toward the water. Above them, the umbrellas repeated like small green roofs against the blue. The signpost offered a scatter of distant cities, but everything in the frame seemed to invite staying put. I wanted to hold that contrast: a place full of directions, with nowhere I needed the eye to hurry.
