About this piece

Two butterflies rest facing opposite directions on a luminous leaf, their upright wings patterned in brown, yellow, cream and green. Strong light reveals fine wing scales and dark veins, while the close crop sets their angular silhouettes against softly blurred foliage. The vivid palette gives this small, still encounter an almost monumental presence.

The story

In this early-April moment, a leaf holds two small lives above a field of green. Light catches the yellow markings and traces the fine ribs of each raised wing. Their antennae reach in opposite directions, delicate black curves against the brightness. For a moment, the whole scene narrows to patterned wings, slender feet and the translucent surface beneath them.
