A long pier draws the eye toward a luminous horizon beneath banks of blue-gray cloud. Warm lamps cast pink reflections across the turquoise water, while softened surf meets the dense, textured seaweed along the shore.
The story
I stood near the seaweed at the water’s edge, looking along the pier toward the pale opening in the clouds. The lamps made small islands of warmth against all that blue, their reflections stretching toward the sand. I framed the rough tangle of the shore beneath the softened movement of the waves. What held me there was the contrast: the pier keeping its straight course while the water dissolved every line beneath it.
