The story

November begins with gold still gathered in the canopy and fallen leaves covering the ground. Sunlight reaches between the trunks, laying bright bands across the sloping forest floor. The road carries its paired yellow lines toward a bend that conceals what comes next. Above it, thinning branches open small windows onto the pale sky.
