About this piece

A spiral shell, banded in vivid turquoise and pearly white, stands on granular sand at the right of the frame. Strong sunlight catches droplets and polished ridges, while shallow focus dissolves the shore into broad bands of gold, white, and gray. The generous open space lends this small coastal subject a sculptural presence.

The story

On this October day, light gathers along the shell’s curved ridges. Tiny droplets hold bright points above the rough sparkle of sand. Behind it, the surf becomes a pale, indistinct ribbon, leaving the spiral sharply present. The eye follows each band inward, then returns to the spacious shore.
