Wings Among Scarlet

About this piece
A butterfly rests with wings spread across a spray of vivid red tubular flowers, its pale wing panels traced by dark veins and markings. Bright light reveals their delicate structure, while shallow focus softens the surrounding foliage and flower spikes. A rising diagonal stem anchors the composition, lending this intimate encounter a poised stillness.
The story
On this January day, the frame holds a small abundance of green and scarlet. A butterfly rests above the flowers, its open wings gathering the light into pale, finely divided panels. Behind it, leaves dissolve into pools of turquoise and green, and distant blossoms become soft red strokes. For a moment, the intricate pattern of a living wing is the clearest thing in the world.
