About this piece
A butterfly rests on a broad green leaf, its folded wings revealing brown and cream markings punctuated by gold-ringed eyespots. Luminous greens surround the upright silhouette, while shallow focus draws attention to the head, delicate legs, and narrow wing edge. Radiating leaf veins give this intimate portrait a quiet structural balance.
The story
On this January day, the frame holds a small world of saturated green. A leaf supports the butterfly beneath its tall, folded wings, their painted circles echoing watchful eyes. Light catches the leaf’s ridges and the fine contours of the insect’s face. Beyond the reach of its antennae, the foliage dissolves into colour, leaving this brief pause without a visible boundary.
