About this piece

Low sunlight washes a sloping pasture in gold, illuminating the rough boards of a wooden barn and casting long shadows across the grass. A diagonal fence line draws the eye toward the bright horizon, while distant blue ridges lend depth to the rural landscape.

The story

I paused beside the fence, drawn first to the barn and then to the light moving across its boards. From where I stood, the pasture seemed to hold two temperatures: gold along the grass tips, cool blue in the shadows. I kept the fence in the frame, letting its uneven posts lead toward the sun. Beyond the bare tree, the ridges offered a quiet counterpoint to all that brightness.
