A paved road narrows toward monumental buttes and slender rock spires beneath an expansive gold and orange sky. Converging white edges and yellow center markings draw the eye through low scrubland, while violet shadows reveal the cliffs’ layered faces. Roadside signs and fences offer a modest human scale within the immense landscape.

The story

September light spreads gold across the clouds, leaving the stone in violet shadow. Along the road, yellow markings diminish into small points until they nearly disappear. Grasses catch the glow beside red earth, and fence posts repeat their thin verticals beneath the towering cliffs. The eye follows the asphalt forward, then pauses where the spires interrupt the sky.
