About this piece

Silken currents weave through a broad field of boulders beneath dense green woodland. A red rock anchors the composition, its warm surface contrasting with the cool water and vivid moss.

The story

I framed the stream low among the boulders, letting the nearest stones fill the foreground. Beyond them, the water divided into narrow falls before gathering again, each obstacle giving it another shape. My eye kept returning to the red boulder on the far side, a warm interruption in the greens and grays. I wanted to hold that contrast: the apparent weight of everything that stayed, and the softness of everything passing through.
