Where Green Holds Light

About this piece

Water droplets punctuate the fine, parallel veins of a green leaf, their rounded forms set against its diagonal structure. Bright yellow-green light and deep bands of shadow transform the botanical detail into a study of texture, rhythm, and translucence.

The story

I moved closer until the leaf filled my view and the surrounding place slipped away. Across its green surface, each bead of water held a bright edge and cast a small shadow. I followed the veins through alternating bands of light and darkness, looking for a frame that could hold both their order and the droplets’ irregular spacing. For that moment, the whole scene was contained in a single leaf.
