Veins of Light

About this piece

Sunlight passes through broad green leaves, revealing fine surface textures between their dark, branching veins. A rippled edge divides the composition, setting luminous yellow-green areas against deep shadows and a softly blurred blue background.

The story

I moved close enough for the leaves to fill the frame, leaving only a narrow opening to the blue beyond. What held my attention was the light passing through them: each vein remained dark while the green between seemed almost weightless. I followed the uneven edge with my eye, noticing where it curled into shadow. For this moment, I wanted the photograph to hold the leaf’s structure and its translucence in equal measure.
