About this piece
Four jets hold a compact formation in the lower half of the frame, their sharply defined silhouettes set against broad, curling smoke trails. Sunlight picks out pale wing surfaces and the billowing texture of the smoke, while a strong diagonal composition balances controlled movement with open blue space.
The story
On the first day of 2019, four aircraft draw a shared line through the blue. Their wings keep a measured distance as narrow streams of smoke widen into folded white ribbons. The air holds these marks for a moment, softening their edges even as the formation remains precise. The new year opens here as a contrast between what holds its shape and what begins to disperse.
