The Ember Curve

About this piece

A tightly framed flamingo portrait follows the sweeping curve of its orange neck toward a pale, watchful eye and black-tipped bill. Bright light describes the fine neck plumage and overlapping wing feathers, while softly blurred green foliage and deep shadow lend the vivid form an intimate stillness.

The story

On this last day of November, the frame holds a concentrated warmth: orange plumage against dark green leaves. The flamingo bends its neck back toward its body, bringing the heavy bill close to the soft layers of its wing. Light catches the feather edges and the pale ring around its eye. Beyond that small, clear gaze, the foliage dissolves into shadow.
