Close-up of an orange flamingo with a curved neck, pale eye, and black-tipped bill against dark foliage.

A Curve Of Flame

MG-1103

November 2019

About this piece

A flamingo fills the frame, its long neck folding into a sweeping curve above densely layered orange and pale pink feathers. Strong light defines the fine plumage and black-tipped bill against dark, softly resolved foliage, giving the close portrait a sculptural intensity.

The story

At November’s end, the flamingo holds a vivid pocket of colour against the shadows. Its neck bends back toward the body, enclosing a small opening of darkness. Light catches the pale ring around its eye and travels across the feather ridges. The bill hangs close to the plumage, and the whole frame gathers around this quiet, folded presence.
