The Air Between

About this piece

Two U.S. Air Force jets overlap in a steeply banked arrangement against a pale blue sky, their white surfaces accented by red and dark blue markings. Soft light reveals the foreground aircraft’s contours, while wavering trails extend into the surrounding space. The tight composition holds the aircraft in a moment of apparent suspension.

The story

On this March day, the sky offers no horizon, only a pale blue field. One aircraft stretches across the frame while another turns behind it, its shape narrowed by the angle. Light gathers on white wings and slips into the dark glass of the cockpit. The trails curl away, leaving a loose record of movement around the precise geometry of flight.
