About this piece

Four aircraft from different eras share the sky, their distinct silhouettes arranged in a rising diagonal across luminous blue and white. The Mustang’s blurred propeller contrasts with the angular profiles of the jets, bringing decades of aviation design into a single formation.

The story

I followed the formation across the clouds, watching the spaces between the aircraft as closely as the aircraft themselves. The silver Mustang held its place beside the darker jets, its propeller a faint blur against the pale sky. Through the lens, their different shapes became a brief, balanced arrangement. I wanted to hold that moment when machines from separate eras seemed to belong to the same passing second.
