The story

I stood near the water’s edge, watching the foam draw a pale border across the sand. Above the pier, clouds held deep blue shadows while their edges burned gold. People along the railing seemed small beneath that sky, absorbed in their own view of the water. I framed the pier stretching away from me and waited for a wave to spread the light across the foreground, bringing the distant brightness almost to my feet.
