A leaning palm anchors the rocky foreground, its dark reflection stretching across gently rippled water. Beyond the shore, a solitary peaked island balances the composition beneath an expansive gold sky, while scattered posts punctuate the bay.

The story

I framed the leaning palm against the open sky, leaving room for the small island across the water. Along the shore, leaves and stones gathered into dark, intricate shapes; farther out, everything seemed to simplify. A peak, a few posts, a reflection loosened by ripples. What held my attention was the space between them, where the gold of the sky settled onto the bay without quite erasing its silvery surface.
