The Green Unfolding

About this piece

Mike Gedj frames a dense cluster of green leaves as a radiating arrangement of blades, curves, and shadow. Water droplets punctuate the foliage, while selective focus draws attention to the pointed inner leaves and softens the surrounding layers.

The story

I leaned closer until the leaves filled the frame and the world beyond them disappeared. Each blade offered a different green, from the pale sweep nearest me to the deep folds at the center. Small drops held to the edges, rounding off the sharpness of the tips. I followed those lines inward with the camera, drawn to the way so much outward movement could begin in such a dark, sheltered place.
