Edges of Ember

About this piece

Fleshy succulent leaves overlap around a compact center, their lime-green surfaces bordered by orange and red. Shallow depth of field separates the finely textured foreground from a wash of golden foliage, emphasizing the plant’s layered structure.

The story

I moved closer until the surrounding foliage became a haze of yellow and green. What held my attention was the thin red line along each leaf, tracing one curve after another toward the center. Through the lens, the plant seemed both sturdy and luminous, its thick leaves gathering the light across their surfaces. I framed the smallest folds beside the broader leaves, letting their repeated shapes carry the photograph.
