Ember Among Leaves

Light reveals the branching veins of a broad green leaf, while an orange-red leaf supplies a vivid counterpoint below. Textured bark and a delicate spike of small pale flowers remain sharply defined against softly blurred foliage.

The story

I found myself looking past the branches toward a single leaf lit green from within. Its red vein led my eye downward to another leaf, already carrying the colors of an ember. I framed them together, leaving the pale trunk at the edge and the tiny flowers reaching into the open space. What held me there was the closeness of those different states: fresh green, weathered orange, and the small beginnings of bloom.
