A weathered tree dominates this black-and-white coastal photograph, its twisting limbs extending beyond the frame. Strong sunlight reveals the grain of exposed wood and casts angular shadows across the shore, while a distant bridge draws a measured line toward the horizon.
The story
I framed the tree close enough for its branches to leave the picture, letting their shadows continue across the ground. Beyond the twisted trunk, the bridge seemed almost delicate, a sequence of small supports against the water. I was drawn to the difference between those two structures: one regular and distant, the other rough and immediate. Between them, the sea offered a narrow band of calm, giving the eye somewhere to rest.
