About this piece

Weathered planks and warm-toned railings converge toward a small pavilion on the horizon, beneath an expansive bank of violet and rose-colored clouds. The pier’s measured geometry contrasts with the shifting forms of the sky, while illuminated lamps punctuate the passage over water.

The story

I framed the pier from its center, letting the railings carry my gaze toward the small gathering at the far end. Above them, the clouds seemed almost too large for the narrow strip of horizon. Pink light settled across the boards, and the lamps offered small, warmer points against the violet sky. I wanted to hold that contrast: the familiar grain of wood underfoot and the immense, unsettled distance beyond it.
