About this piece

Viewed from deck level, the pier’s yellow railings converge toward a small blue-roofed structure and distant figures. Warm orange light gives way to lavender overhead, while blurred birds interrupt the measured rhythm of the lamps.

The story

I lowered the camera until the wooden boards became a broad, soft foreground. From there, the railings seemed to gather the whole sky into a single point at the end of the pier. A few people stood in the distance, small beneath the lamps. Then birds crossed the open space above the right-hand railing, briefly loosening the geometry. I wanted to hold that meeting of a steady path and passing wings.
