About this piece

A wooden cabin sits to one side of a broad clearing, its weathered boards and pale metal roof framed by dense greenery. Tall palms counterbalance the low building, while bands of sunlight and shade give the grassy foreground depth.

The story

I framed the cabin with enough room for the clearing to remain part of its story. The palms rose well above the roof, and the surrounding foliage made the little structure seem smaller still. What held my attention was the contrast between the bright grass and the dark windows. I wanted the photograph to preserve that distance: a place plainly visible in the sunlight, with an interior that remained its own.
