About this piece

A flamingo holds its wings open, revealing layered pale and dark flight feathers beneath vivid orange plumage. Its upright neck anchors the vertical composition, while the broad wings stand out against a deeply shadowed background of foliage and resting birds.

The story

I framed the flamingo against the darkest part of the foliage, where its orange neck stood clear of the surrounding birds. With its wings open, each row of feathers became visible: pale edges, dark tips, and the warm color closest to its body. I kept its slender legs and planted feet in the frame. What held my attention was that balance—a gesture expansive enough to suggest flight, yet firmly rooted in the sand.
