Gold Unfolding

About this piece

Overlapping golden bracts rise diagonally through the frame, crowned by slender white flowers that curl into the dark background. Selective focus reveals fine surface textures while a second bloom dissolves into soft fields of yellow, white, and green.

The story

I moved close enough for the surrounding foliage to lose its edges. What held my attention was the contrast between the layered yellow bracts and the white flowers reaching beyond them, each taking a different direction. Light picked out their fine surfaces without revealing much of the space behind. I framed that small meeting of colour and shadow, letting the distant bloom remain a soft echo of the one before me.
