Green Unfolding

About this piece

Mike Gedj frames a dense rosette of green leaves, their overlapping blades extending beyond the photograph’s edges. Luminous yellow-green tips and deep emerald shadows reveal a sculptural rhythm of upright growth and outward-curving foliage.

The story

I looked into the plant rather than past it, following the long leaves toward their dark meeting point. Each blade held a slightly different green, from the pale edges catching light to the deep folds underneath. Moving closer, I let the surrounding place disappear from the frame. What remained was this small architecture of growth: pointed leaves rising through the center, older ones bending outward, each making room for the next.
