Edges of Green

About this piece

Mike Gedj frames the aloe at close range, tracing the serrated edges of its overlapping leaves. Saturated greens, scattered water droplets, and reddish tips create a study in texture, with selective focus separating crisp contours from softened foliage.

The story

I moved closer until the leaves filled the frame and the surrounding world fell away. Along each edge, small red tips caught the light, marking a delicate boundary around the broad green surfaces. Water lingered in separate beads, revealing curves I might otherwise have missed. I wanted to hold that contrast: the softness of the light against the plant’s defenses, and the quiet complexity of one small patch of green.
