About this piece

Two U.S. Air Force jets overlap in opposing flight, their banked wings forming intersecting shapes against a saturated blue sky. Sunlight defines the nearer aircraft’s white surfaces and cockpit, while motion softens the second jet. A pale smoke trail crosses the open background, balancing the encounter’s tension with an expansive sense of space.

The story

The year is only two days old, and the sky opens into blue without a visible horizon. Two pointed noses face away from one another as the aircraft briefly share the same small patch of the frame. Light catches a canopy and traces the white wings; the farther jet slips into blur. Smoke remains as a soft line through the moment, marking where movement passes and begins to disappear.
