The story

In this December frame, the year's closing weeks hold a blaze of orange. Two long necks rise through the shadowed foliage and bend toward the same small space. Pale eyes and dark-tipped bills lend precision to the softness of layered feathers. Between the birds, a narrow opening lets the leaves remain visible, a little darkness held within the color.
