The story

Late June light spreads across the grasses, catching gold among the red and silver coastal plants. Below, a thin line of surf folds onto the sand while the lagoon holds a softer blue. The fence follows the hillside, its repeated posts measuring the distance toward the water. Beyond the beach, a narrow road traces the dark slopes, and the coast bends out of sight.
