About this piece

Turquoise surf curls onto a narrow sweep of sand beneath fractured coastal rocks. Soft light under a clouded sky reveals the coarse foreground stone, while the shoreline leads toward a tall, tilted outcrop and the open horizon. The composition balances the weight of rock against the restless surface of the sea.

The story

On this late-June day, the sea brings a bright band of turquoise into the shelter of the rocks. Foam spreads thinly across the sand, then loosens into small white threads. The close stone face fills one side of the view, its rough surface a counterpoint to the smooth wet shore. Beyond it, the horizon remains open beneath a pale blue-gray sky.
