The story

Late August light finds the wet edges of the stones and gathers in the shallows. Along the shore, green growth softens pale rock, while the metal framework carries its dark rhythm out toward open water. Two small figures stand near the seawall, dwarfed by the cloud-filled sky. Ripples break the gold into countless moving fragments, and the shore seems to hold its breath between them.
