About this piece

Two jets fly in close formation above the sea, one upright and the other inverted, their red, white and blue markings sharply defined by sunlight. Their paired profiles occupy the upper frame, while a low horizon and scattered motorboats extend the composition downward into blue. The opposing orientations create a poised symmetry within an expansive coastal scene.

The story

March daylight catches the white fuselages and flashes across a cockpit canopy. One aircraft turns the familiar shape of flight upside down, while its companion holds the opposite orientation. Between them, a narrow interval of blue becomes the photograph’s quiet center. Far below, boats scatter across the water, their small wakes tracing a slower passage.
