The Weight of Sky

About this piece

A massive natural rock arch spans the frame above stone steps and a gravel slope dotted with shrubs. Strong sunlight articulates fractures and layered surfaces, while the monochrome rendering contrasts the rock’s dense texture with the smooth sky inside its opening. The low viewpoint gives the formation a monumental, sheltering presence.

The story

September light settles sharply on the steps, separating each pale tread from its shadow. The path rises toward an opening where a thin cloud hangs beneath the great curve of stone. At the edges, shrubs cast intricate patterns across the loose ground. The eye climbs from gravel to fractured rock, then rests in the open sky.
