About this piece

A weathered tree dominates the rocky ground, its exposed grain winding through a broad trunk and splintered, outstretched limbs. Strong sunlight draws golden tones from wood and stone against a deep blue sky, while living trees frame the sculptural remains. The low viewpoint lends this dry landscape a quiet monumentality.

The story

September light settles into the grooves of the wood, revealing lines that bend and gather around each broken limb. The tree spreads across the stone, its bare branches holding open patches of blue. Behind it, green foliage offers a softer texture against the hard contours of rock and timber. Nothing in the frame hurries; even the small clouds seem to leave the tree its space.
