About this piece

A red stagecoach bearing the words “Goulding’s Stage Lines” stands within a rope barrier, its yellow wheels sharply illuminated against red desert ground. The low viewpoint sets its painted panels and radiating spokes beneath an expansive blue sky, balanced by a towering cliff at right and a distant flat-topped formation at left.

The story

September sunlight falls across the coach, brightening yellow spokes and the fine borders of its red panels. Ropes hang in loose curves around wheels that remain still. Beyond the fence, bare ground stretches toward a distant mesa, while the nearby cliff fills the edge of the sky. The open windows hold their small pockets of shade, offering a quiet counterpoint to the exposed desert.
