The panoramic composition follows a pale dirt road into the distance, balancing the open valley against the imposing rock wall at right. Orange along the horizon gives way to clear blue overhead, lending the rugged terrain a luminous stillness.

The story

On this September day, the sun rests just above the distant ridge, gathering gold into a narrow band of sky. Sparse grasses catch the light along the rocky foreground, while shallow gullies fold into shadow. A pale road threads between the great stone forms and dwindles across the plain. The eye follows it until the road becomes indistinguishable from the distance.
