A low sun meets the horizon beside a dark strip of land, illuminating layered clouds with brilliant orange edges. The sailboat at left and small motorboat at right balance the composition beneath an expansive sky, while channel markers punctuate the gently rippled foreground. Dark silhouettes and finely traced reflections lend stillness to the intense color.
The story
Late July finds the horizon glowing orange beneath banks of dark cloud. Figures gather in silhouette aboard the sailboat, small against the tall sweep of its sail. Across the water, a motorboat leaves a faint wake beneath the sun. Light catches the ripples in narrow threads, and the channel markers stand dark between them. For this moment, the day's remaining brightness gathers along the edge of the water.
