Beneath The Burning Sky

About this piece

A low sun shines through horizontal bands of cloud, casting a golden reflection across rippled coastal water. Beneath it, a small thatched-roof boat appears in silhouette, balanced by channel markers to the left and a dark shoreline to the right. The expansive orange sky lends a dramatic intensity to the otherwise quiet scene.

The story

Late July finds the sun suspended above the water, its bright disk interrupted by passing clouds. A small roofed boat rests within the line of reflected light, its silhouette briefly gathering the eye. Across the foreground, ripples break the orange glow into narrow, wavering strips. The distant shoreline remains dark as the sky holds its last brilliance.
