The story
On this last day of July, gold spreads across the water in narrow, trembling bands. Small waves slip between the stones, briefly softening their dark outlines. Palms gather along the bend of the shore beneath a long bank of blue-gray cloud. At the horizon, the light finds openings; close by, wet rock holds its quieter gleam.
