A chained wooden gate fills a white plaster opening, its worn vertical slats revealing fragments of stonework, steps, and potted greenery beyond. Warm sunlight grazes the textured surround and threshold, while the nearly symmetrical composition gives this closed passage a quiet, measured presence.

The story

Late July light rests along the lintel and catches the rough edges of the white paint. Between the slats, greenery and dark stone appear in narrow strips, a sheltered world only partly visible. The chain hangs across the meeting boards, its rust-colored links interrupting their pale rhythm. At the threshold, a thin line of sunlight reaches beneath the gate.
