Where Night Becomes Color

About this piece
Times Square fills the frame with illuminated advertisements above a dense street scene of traffic, pedestrians, food carts, and scaffolding. From an elevated viewpoint, diagonal crosswalks and curved signal arms counter the towering rectangles of light, while saturated orange, yellow, and cyan spill across vehicle roofs. The composition holds spectacle and street-level detail in restless balance.
The story
On this August night, Times Square seems to borrow its sky from the screens. Chocolate bars rise to architectural scale, while Broadway lettering glows beside dark windows. Below, passengers sit on an open-top bus, and yellow-and-blue food-cart umbrellas shelter a smaller world of bright counters and passing customers. Color travels across the cars as they cross the white stripes. Beneath the immense promises overhead, the city continues at human scale.
