An upward view of city towers at night, with multicolored light strips, bright billboards, and a pale stone facade.

Night in Parallel

About this piece

Seen from below, a cluster of towers converges against a nearly black sky, its window grids punctuated by illuminated signs and multicolored bands of light. Saturated billboards frame the lower edges, while a pale, ornamented facade provides a measured counterpoint to the glass and luminous geometry. The steep perspective lends the nocturnal scene a sense of vertigo and spectacle.

The story

On this August night, darkness opens above the buildings while their edges remain bright. Thin ribbons of color climb floor by floor, drawing the eye beyond the billboards. A screen holds an image of green foliage beneath the towers, a patch of pictured nature amid glass and stone. Beside it, rows of dark windows offer small intervals of quiet. Looking upward, the city becomes less a collection of destinations than an arrangement of light.
