About this piece
Three pelicans occupy a horizontal railing against an intensely orange sky, the central bird bending its neck to preen. A brilliant sun hangs above the rightmost bird, while golden water and a cropped bait sign anchor the scene below. Strong backlighting outlines the birds and gives their unhurried gestures a sculptural presence.
The story
On this March evening, the sky holds a wash of orange above the golden water. Three pelicans share the railing, each absorbed in its own small stillness. The middle bird folds its neck and draws its bill into its feathers, a curved interruption between two upright companions. Below them, the word “BAIT” marks a human purpose; above, the bright sun fills the sky without disturbing their quiet routine.
