Small Fires of Green

About this piece

A cluster of orange tubular blossoms rises right of center, its yellow-tipped flowers carrying small beads of water. Shallow depth of field softens the surrounding foliage into broad passages of green, setting the bloom’s branching structure against a luminous ground.

The story

I moved close enough for the surrounding leaves to lose their edges. What held my attention was not only the orange, but the small drops caught between the flowers, each holding a bright fragment of the scene. I placed the bloom to one side and let the green remain open around it. Through the lens, the smallest details gave this vivid cluster a quieter rhythm.
