A pale, deeply textured trunk crosses the upper frame, while tangled roots extend across the warm sand below. Beyond this sculptural foreground, turquoise water and distant sailboats offer a quiet contrast of open space and fine detail.
The story
I framed the sea beneath the leaning trunk, letting its worn surface occupy as much space as the water. My eye kept returning to the small hollows in the wood, then drifting outward toward the two boats. Along the sand, a thin edge of foam traced a gentler line than the roots. I wanted to hold those different shapes together: the tangled shoreline close at hand, and the clear, unhurried distance beyond.
