The story

Late September gathers into bands of silver and charcoal. Above the lighthouse, a bright disc rests in an opening between clouds, almost touching the lantern’s pointed roof. Palms crowd the narrow shore while the sea stretches toward a level horizon. Across the foreground, light breaks into small, shifting fragments, making a passage that never quite holds still.
